About me
Welcome to my tech site, an independent
multi-platform site including software for Palm OS & Windows.
Loftcat.org.uk is my new site encompassing
all the areas of computing I'm interested in.
Early background
Way back in my school days I began writing games and utilities
for the Amstrad CPC and Acorn Electron until eventually upgrading to Amigas in the early
1990s. I studied computing at university and along side that released
several games and education programs into the Amiga public domain. Along side
programming I ran a popular Amstrad Public Domain software library called Data
PD from 1990 to 1992. Several of my Amstrad and Spectrum games enjoyed modest
success though 'homebrew' distributors The Guild and The Adventure Workshop. One
of my Amiga releases Top of the League went on to do better, making the 17-Bit
Shareware top 10 titles.
Recent past
I have now worked in the IT
industry for a number of years in support roles as well as working closely with
software developers. Away from my day job I successfully programmed and
distributed Top of the League for Palm OS in 2003 with on-going updates right up
until 2008. The game was well received, including a favourable write-up in UK high
street publication
PDA Essentials as well as being
distributed on the cover CD-Rom several times in 2004 and 2005. It also made the
PDA 247
Top 5 PDA
Sports Games in October 2007.
Current activity
I try to divide my precious spare
time outside of work between further study and programming new software.
Although still involved in mobile development recently I've been learning more
about the .Net Framework and the Ruby programming language in the desktop
environments. QReplace and Password Inventor were recent projects for Windows.
Top of the League has also been released on the Symbian platform, giving it a
new lease of life.
